Rain Sensors for Irrigation Systems
Rain sensors are simple devices that prevent your sprinkler system from watering when it has rained. They save water, money, and prevent overwatering that can damage your landscape.
How Rain Sensors Work
Most rain sensors use hygroscopic discs that expand when wet. When the discs are saturated (indicating sufficient rainfall), they interrupt the signal to your controller, preventing irrigation. As the discs dry out, normal operation resumes.
Benefits of Rain Sensors
- Required by Texas law on new irrigation systems
- Reduces water waste and utility bills
- Prevents overwatering and lawn disease
- Automatic operation - no manual intervention needed
- Easy to install on existing systems
